I Raised My Hand: The Youth Movement in Africa

It started at Cuttington University, located in Suakoko (Bong County), Liberia... Cuttington University (CU) students under the expert leadership of fellow student and RYHF Country Director Alexander Ireland, launched Liberia’s first RYHF Student Association in February 2010. The founding members of this extraordinary effort represent the very best of Liberia. These young men and women were motivated by a vision that is at the core of RYHF – that education is key to returning Liberia to the thriving, prosperous nation it was prior to the war. And in a true spirit of acceptance, they welcomed each and every participant to the association without prejudice or discrimination.

RYHF honors the commitment, resourcefulness, and creativity of this gifted group of young leaders, both past and present. They are role models for the younger generation and an inspiration for their peers. Their contributions today will be their legacy tomorrow. The vision for the RYHF Student Association is to maximize individual potential, support student success on campus, and to give back to the community.

September 27, 2014: RYHF Student Association at Cuttington University initiated, organized, and launched an Ebola Safety Campaign in the communities surrounding the campus in Bong County. Under the motto of Raise Your Hands to Stop Ebola they instructed on Ebola facts and safety practices and distributed chlorine wash buckets. Their efforts were appreciated by individuals and made their communities safer from the spread of this deadly virus. The volunteer spirit reflected in the service of these young men and women exemplifies the courage and character of students and alumni associated with RYHF and the hope of their nation.

What is next? In partnership with the student leadership council, RYHF is looking ahead to further discussions and adoption of many innovative ideas shared in these valuable forums.
